Hi Everyone!

Jon here to tell you a little bit about myself and why I am so thrilled to be part of the Because I am a Girl Campaign. I have lived my entire life in Toronto, Canada but have always been curious about the outside world. Since I received a video camera and an iMac for my Barmitsvah I have always been interested in documenting anything and everything. In high school I filmed a documentary on how women are portrayed in music videos and continued with a series of documentaries for a variety of amazing non-profit organizations around Ontario.  I just got back from Rwanda where myself and fellow director Torey Kohara shot a film on kids who play soccer together after the Rwandan Genocide.

Being part of the Because I am a Girl team has been an absolute blast! I love my fellow filmmakers and can’t wait to travel across Canada – something I haven’t done before. More importantly however is the way in which this project has opened up my eyes to the rest of the world. Hearing these amazing stories of resilience and outstanding achievements amongst the girls we have interviewed thus far has helped me look at the world from a new perspective. Coming from a male-point of view, it is crucial that both men and women / girls and boys unite together to try and make our world a better place. Together, we can do anything!

Stay tuned for further updates as we begin our incredible adventure starting in Ottawa on October 1st.
