East coast Michaela rocks!!!

Michaela

Anyone who’s ever been stickered for the cause after crossing paths with 11-year-old Michaela Lalande can’t doubt the power of one girl.

We first met Michaela here on the blog back in early October when the Because I am a Girl documentary film team was interviewing girls in Nova Scotia. Ever since, she’s been a girl on a mission, spreading the word about the movement with huge determination and persistence.

Not every girl would even want to stand up in front of 500 students at their school to give a presentation on girls’ rights but that didn’t faze Michaela, especially after she insisted to her principal that the cause was something he had to fit into the school’s schedule.

And Michaela isn’t stopping there. She’s been invited to give a presentation to her old school and she wants to expand her campaign to a local high school too. She even has her eye on presenting to her Dad’s air force base and says, “If all the military kids across Canada got together, just think of the difference it would make!”

Between her bigger gigs, Michaela is also out to convert people to the cause one a time. She’s created a Because I am a Girl notebook which she updates nightly from our blog and website, and gives regular updates to her class. She thinks her pink Because I am a Girl t-shirt is a great conversation starter and she always keeps enough stickers on her to give out to people she meets.

When Michaela really wants to help someone, she can’t stop until she has and says, “As a girl, you’ve got a lot of power. And I want to use it.”

Go Michaela go! Be the one!
