High Five to Bishop Strachan School! This week girls at Bishop Strachan School in Toronto voted to support the Because I am a Girl campaign!
The school’s student-led Philanthropy Council decided to put their good works to a vote this year: of 21 charities that were nominated, 3 were chosen to receive money raised on “grub days.” On Grub Days, girls who want to wear casual clothes instead of school uniforms pay $2 for the privilege, and that money goes straight to charity. This time it was to help Because I am a Girl, a global campaign to claim a brighter, safer future for girls.
During the annual Christmas assembly, the BSS girls heard a presentation about the fight for women’s rights around the world, and what Because I am a Girl is doing to make it a reality for tons of girls. After the presentation, they signed the e-petition to tell the Canadian Government to declare September 22 as the National Day of the Girl. A bunch of them also contributed to the campaign by making a donation through texting on their cell phones.
It just shows that its true, girls can do anything! Way to go, BSS!
