Meet Rampi, a Because I am a Girl activist. After seeing the Because I am a Girl commercial on TV, Rampi knew that she had to do something. So, she decided to start a fundraising campaign with a goal of raising $500 to support women and girls around the world.
Rampi’s message:
“Right now the world is failing girls – MASSIVELY.
One billion people live in extreme poverty – 70 per cent are women and girls.
It’s estimated 20 million girls never go to school. Girls face more violence than boys do.
Do the right thing. Help me raise money so children in 45 different countries around the world, get clean water, food, health care and education.
Investing in girls is key to eliminating poverty and create a better world. It’s that simple.
Here’s my personal sponsor link.
Please sponsor me. donate as much as you want. Even if its just 1$. That’ll make a huge difference. and trust me you’ll feel great doing it.
Please do the right thing. Help girls all around the world!!”
Rampi, a third year justice studies student at University of Guelph Humber really wanted to make a lot of people aware of the issue, so she decided to start spreading her message on facebook. She recruited more than 200 members into her Because I am a Girl group and has started to work on fundraising. Coming up, she plans to hold a bake sale at school and a fundraising walk in the summer to reach her fundraising goal.
I asked Rampi what she recommends for other girls who have heard about the issues facing women around the world and want to do something about it:
“So far I would encourage people not to give up!! It becomes difficult when people don’t respond, however doing things that include them helps. For example, having a bake sale, contests etc. Also, get your friends/family to help out the more people you have the bigger the impact.”
Help support Rampi to meet her goal, or think about starting your own campaign.
