The Film: South Africa’s Rough Aunties clean up messes. Community messes, like helping children to access child services after being abused, supporting the police department in investigations about rape and sexual assault, or console a woman who’s son had drowned in the river. This group of women, each who have experienced abuse, rape, poverty, HIV-positive friends and family members, death, and violence themselves, decided that they could do something about the problems in their community if they put their minds to it. This movie follows them as they tackle the issues that arrive (sometimes literally) on their doorstep.
The Verdict: inspiring, educational, & worth watching.
Rough Aunties is showing on Sunday, May 2 at 11am at Isabel Bader Theatre.

My sister and I watched the documentary together and were moved beyond belief. This is such a wonderful organization. Please inform us as to how we could also help to make a diference. Please allow us to share further in the wonderful deeds the “aunties” are performing everyday. Thank you all sooooo much for allowing us to be a part of the greatness that is performed selflessly of these women. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
