Screen shot 2009-12-11 at 12.28.21 AMToday on the bus home from my Stats Exam (yay! its over!) I came across a headline that screamed:

“Muzzled Voices: A choir of activists perform a concert highlighting the lack of education opportunities for girls in the developing world.”

So cool!  The group, Girls Without Voices, is part of the Because I am a Girl campaign in England.  They took advantage of the festive season to try to get people thinking beyond Santa and shopping lists.  At the outdoor concert, only male members of the choir were allowed to sing.  The women all had gags across their mouths to highlight the fact that a lot of women don’t have a voice.  News of the performance made it all the way across the ocean and into our Metro paper!

I love stuff like this that is simple, but smart and good at getting an important message across.  It’s too bad that they didn’t catch the “silent” part of the concert on film, but if you want to see some of the footage you can here on YouTube.
